A week from now will be Tom's last planned day as moderator of the LEF forums. It will seem strange to me - and many others - after that, not to see his [ --Tom] comments with most messages posted. (Of course, unless LEF management deletes all previous threads, his comments - typically filled with peer reviewed citations and/or his own insight - will remain available.) Now, however, he works feverishly to meet his paid moderator obligations and increase his presence on sci.life-extension, while we gear up for increased work on MoreLife.
There have been times in the 10 months since we brought MoreLife online, that Tom despaired whether he would ever have sufficient time to devote to the website in order to properly present the many aspects of life-expansion and life-extension. Only when he was unencumbered by his obligations to LEF could he expand on the "skeleton" we had presented.
Now that the last week as LEF Forums Moderator is here, the posts there are as many as ever, discussions on sci.life-extension are picking up, new MoreLife-related Yahoo Groups require attention for adherence to scope, among other items calling on Tom's time. However, I am confident that this time next month, Tom will be spending the majority of his time elbow deep into the science of life-extension - including the effects and mechanisms of several anti-aging research chemicals - while he expands and improves the technical portions of MoreLife. Fairly regularly, he will review the threads on sci.life-extension, providing input as he has done in the past. Periodically, he will surface on LEF Forums when he thinks it is warranted to comment on something incorrect or misleading said by the replacement moderator. Tom will then, as simply a Registered User, have the opportunity to challenge statements made by LEF - something he has not been able to do in public before.
While the present is a bit tumultuous, the future looks exciting in its challenge. We welcome it with confident anticipation.
* * * *The above was written about 12 hours before LEF management pulled Tom's moderator access to The Forums in the wee hours of 1/11, just before I was planning to upload this entry. In addition, for a short time, [ --MODERATOR] replaced [ --Tom] on all the posts. After Tom sent off an email to LEF management and their computer technical support stating that retaining his comments without his name was fraudulent, the System Administrator returned his name. How long the true authorship of the thousands of post comments will be shown is not known. Hopefully LEF mangement will realize that they have a great deal to lose in the way of reader respect and confidence if they attempt to rewrite history - even of their own website.
