Kitty Reflects on MoreLife

"Do the ends justify the means?" I was asked this in an e-mail by someone trying to justify to himself the unethical actions of another while in pursuit of "great science".

My answer was a definite NO.

First, the actions were objectively wrong - the rights of others were being violated; the e-mailer acknowledged this and was sickened by it. In fact, he was himself among the "violated".

Second, the results of alternate actions - moral ones - that could have been taken by the other were not being considered. These results were never allowed to come into existence. It is likely that the knowledge actually obtained would be the same, possibly more. Even if it were less, the science would be unsullied by deceit and worse.

Tom and I have discussed this situation at length with the philosophical implications of all it holds. At MoreLife, we seek more of life for ourselves. We have and will provide information (and services in the future) for those seeking the same from a basis of honesty, treating our site visitors with respect (until an individual shows himself to be undeserving).

We will not perform any activities ourselves that are not of the highest integrity nor condone or excuse the activities of others that are less than honest. This may mean that we will be less financially successful than others, but our integrity is worth more than mere money. It is our hope, however, that there are large numbers of people in the world who think likewise.
